Saint Halo, 2017

In his work, Florian Germann (b. 1978, lives in Zürich) weaves together historical events with mythological narratives, half-fictions, fantastic fairytales, and scientific facts. Often enough, visitors become participants within his works, while he slips into the role of the artistic researcher or polymath. In the course of his research for the Klöntal Triennial, Germann came across accountsof light phenomena and Marian apparitions in and around the canton of Glarus. The earliest of these accounts originated during the seventeenth century and reported observations of light phenomena in the atmosphere as twilight approached. Stories such as these, in turn, becomethe point of departure for his actions. In the performative, multimedia work complex Saint Halo, he pursues the possibilities for influencing the audience‘s perception and their accounts, as well as the dissemination of rumors, especially in reference to the “post-factual age” and social media in the context of our thoroughly rationalized and highly technophilic contemporary society.
