Looking from Within, 2017

George Steinmann (b. 1950, lives in Bern) is an art-ist, musician, and researcher. He takes otherwise inflationary promises of “sustainability” seriously and aims to initiate comprehensive social transformation processes. The artist is a visionary whose projects bring together architects, scientists, philosophers, and art historians in order to shape the process of knowledge production. At the same time, he is also a critic who demands our participation in producing a mindful, sustainable culture and world. His emphasis lies on processes, and he thus designs “growing sculptures.” For the Klöntal Triennial, he has devoted himself to working longterm on the regional nature—from an outpost in Richisau—as well the way it has developed during the Anthropocene era, in which humans have exerted an increasingly strong influence on the course of evolution. Under the working title Looking from Within, George Steinmann has initiated a longterm process that extends beyond the temporal horizon of the 2017 Klöntal Triennial and will lead to development of various architectural structures throughout Richisau.
